The 2022 Kia Stinger – Is it a strong contender against the mighty BMW and Audi?

Kia is always known to bring cars brimming  with premium features within the commoner’s budget.
This year, the Stinger trim from Kia is seemingly competing or in a more precise way to put it ; providing a cheaper alternative to their superior German rivals. In this case the Audi A5 Sportback and the BMW 4-series Gran Coupe.

Don’t get me wrong, when I mention them as ‘superior’. In reality the 2022 Kia Stinger may have a better value to money when compared with its costlier counterparts. The reason being the super stylish interior of the car. In its topmost variant with every upgrade, it has got a 10.3 inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, 15-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo, wireless smartphone charging pad and in-dash navigation. Now that’s the definition of loaded.

Having said that, the generic build quality is still a bar lower than its German rivals.

Performance :
The 2022 Kia Stinger is powered by a 2.5 litre turbo-four engine that produces an output power of 300 hp and a 311 lb-ft torque ( a significant improvement over its former engine ; 255-hp turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder).
There is also an optional twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6 trim with 368 hp and 376 lb-ft torque.
The former trim takes 5.2 seconds for the 0 to 60 mph feat, when the latter takes 4.7 seconds.
There is only one option of an 8-speed automatic transmission in either trims with paddle shifters.
Another decision to make, is to choose between the standard rear-wheel drive option and an all-wheel drive.

Pricing : The GT-line is the basic trim that costs around 37k USD. Overlook an extra 7k to your budget, and you get a sunroof, an 8.0 inch infotainment screen, Harman/Kardon audio, automatic high-beam headlamps, a power-adjustable steering column, ventilated front seats, automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a driver-attention monitor. It’s worth noting that all of these comes in a car priced under 50k USD.
The top trim, GT2 costs around 52k USD.
Kia is apparently trying to challenge sales of cars like the Audi A5 Sportback, BMW 4-Series Grand Coupe, the Mercedes Benz C-Class and the Infiniti Q50 with its cheaper pricing.
