Tesla vs Lucid vs Audi vs Porsche

2021 kicked-off with the reveal of multiple dazzling EVs. In this post we would be summarising on the best all-electric sedans available in the market as of now ; Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan, Lucid Air and the Audi E-Tron GT that was unveiled a couple of days ago. Almost every major trim would be considered in the comparison.

Range and Charging Time : Lucid Air’s Grand Touring trim and the latest Tesla Model S Plaid Plus are like the New York Yankees in the range game ; 517 miles and 520 miles respectively. The new Audi E-Tron GT has got a range of 238 miles while the E-Tron GT RS edition comes with slightly lower range of 232 miles. The Porsche Taycan 4S with Performance Battery Pack has got 227 miles of range, although it is estimated to be higher (around 250 miles) in practical scenarios.
Porsche and Audi have got decent EV ranges, however Lucid Air and Tesla Model S still rule the range domain.

Conclusion (for ease in comparison)
1. Tesla Model S Plaid Plus : 520 miles
2. Lucid Air Grand Touring: 517 miles
3. Porsche Taycan 4S (with performance battery pack) : 227 miles or greater
4. Audi E-Tron GT : 238 miles
5. Audi E-Tron GT RS : 232 miles

Charging times are a bit difficult to be contrasted directly as they are published with distinct time specifications ; Both Audi and Porsche just need about 22.5 minutes to go from 5% to 80%. Lucid Air gets 300 miles of range from 20 mins of charging and Tesla’s Model S charges upto 80% in 30 mins.

Performance : With the new Tesla Model S Plaid Plus, Tesla towers the rest of the premium EV sedans performance wise. Tesla claims a new record time of 1.99 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. This updated version of Model S comes with an insane 1100hp and on the other hand Lucid Air’s Dream Edition trim (more focused into performance) possesses a 1080hp and could achieve the 0 to 60 drag in 2.3 seconds. Lucid Air Grand Touring trim with the 500 mile range however requires 3.0 seconds for the 0 to 60 feat.
The Audi E-Tron GT with 522hp would need 3.9 seconds and the RS edition (637 hp), 3.1 seconds.
Porsche’s Taycan 4s with the performance battery pack takes 3.8 seconds but Porsche’s Taycan Turbo yields a more aggressive result with 3.0 seconds to do the same.

Conclusive summary (for ease in comparison)

1. Tesla Model S Plaid Plus : 0 to 60 in 1.99 seconds, 1100 hp, 200 mph (top speed)

2. Lucid Air Dream Edition : 0 to 60 in 2.3 seconds, 1080 hp, 168 mph (top speed)

3. Lucid Air Grand Touring : 0 to 60 in 3.0 seconds, 800 hp, 168 mph (top speed)

4. Audi E-Tron GT : 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds, 522 hp, 472 lb-ft torque, 152 mph (top speed)

5. Audi E-Tron GT RS            : 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds, 637 hp, 612 lb-ft torque, 155 mph (top speed)

Self-driving tech : Tesla’s trims come with the usual ‘Autopilot’. It is safe to say that the Autopilot features do really automate the driving to a great extent with features like Lane Assist and so on, although the vehicles still very much require our hands on the steering wheel. Porsche’s ‘InnoDrive’ for Taycan chooses the best speeds automatically and also has the lane-assist feature like Tesla. In my opinion, both Autopilot and InnoDrive does a great job in safer driving. Having said that we are yet to experience something like a 100 percent autonomous vehicle from any of these marques. As for Lucid and Audi E-Tron GT not much is known as of now. Lucid claims that their trims would launch with Level 2 driver-assistant tech. Speaking of Audi, we are all excited to see how the 12.3 inch ‘Virtual Cockpit’ and its self-driving features would stack up against Tesla and Taycan.

Pricing : Almost every trim mentioned here falls within 100k to 140k USD. Due to lack of information, the pricing of all cars are known according to US rates but not otherwise.

However, here goes a comprehensive list for comparison in USD :

1. Audi E-Tron GT : 99,900
2. Audi RS E-Tron GT : 139,900
3. Lucid Air Grand Touring : 139,900
4. Lucid Air Dream Edition : 169,000
5. Porsche Taycan 4S
(with pbp) : 109,370
6. Porsche Taycan Turbo : 150,000
7. Tesla Model S Plaid Plus : 139,990

There are basic trims too from Audi, Lucid, Porsche or Tesla for that matter, which would cost lesser. Apparently, those were excluded from our comparison to only stack up the best cars against each other.
