The EQA

The EQA is Mercedes-Benz’s cute new addition to the EQ family. It is also the first fully electric compact SUV by MB. Considering Daimler’s baby steps in the EV arena, the launch of the EQA is something truly significant. This also means that there is going to be another serious contender in the EV market. The design of this compact SUV is more or less similar to the GLA crossover.

The vehicle is expected to produce a 187 hp output power derived from an asynchronous motor with a torque of 375 Nm accelerates the EQA from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.9 seconds. A more powerful all-wheel drive dual motor variant of 280 hp is also expected to roll out that can accelerate the car from 0 to 100 kmph in 5 seconds and with a 500 Nm torque.
The top speed is 160 kmph. With a frontal area of 2.47 square meters the EQA has a drag coefficient of 0.28. Tesla’s Model Y has drag coefficient of 0.23.

With a 66.5 KWh battery pack, the estimated range of the premium compact SUV is 265 miles (WLTP range). This gives a neat competition to the Volkswagen ID.3 and the Volvo XC40 Recharge P8.

The navigation system AI is pretty sophisticated like Tesla and is capable of calculating the fastest route. It also plans charging stops within the route considering the estimated charging time. There are 450,000 “Mercedes Me Charge” charging points spread across 31 countries. A payment function is integrated into the infotainment display in the vehicle or via the associated smartphone app. The owners of the EQA can use an ionity package to charge from supported fast charging stations at an electricity price of 0.29 euros/KWh. With rapid DC charging the vehicle could be charged upto 100% in 30 mins.
